Monograph
Telmisartan 40 mg + Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg (per tablet)
Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure), especially when single-drug therapy is not adequate; helps reduce risk of cardiovascular events associated with uncontrolled BP
Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that relaxes blood vessels by blocking angiotensin II effects, lowering blood pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic that increases salt and water excretion through urine, reducing fluid volume and blood pressure.
Oral tablets. Take as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily at the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow with water; do not stop abruptly without medical advice.
dizziness, lightheadedness, low blood pressure, increased urination, headache, fatigue, nausea, electrolyte imbalance (low potassium/sodium), increased uric acid, muscle cramps
Not recommended in pregnancy; stop and consult doctor if pregnancy occurs. Use caution in kidney or liver disease, dehydration, low BP, heart failure, diabetes, gout, and electrolyte disturbances. May cause dizziness—avoid driving if affected. Monitor blood pressure, kidney function (creatinine), and electrolytes (sodium/potassium); risk of acute kidney injury in volume-depleted patients. Thiazides may raise blood sugar, uric acid and lipids; may cause photosensitivity.
NSAIDs (may reduce effect and increase kidney risk), lithium (toxicity risk), other antihypertensives/alcohol (additive low BP), potassium supplements/potassium-sparing diuretics (risk of high potassium with ARB), ACE inhibitors or aliskiren (higher risk of kidney issues/hyperkalemia; avoid in diabetes with aliskiren), digoxin (telmisartan may increase levels), corticosteroids/ACTH (electrolyte loss), antidiabetics (dose adjustment may be needed)
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
