Monograph
Tablet
Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure), especially when blood pressure is not adequately controlled with telmisartan alone; helps reduce risk of cardiovascular complications associated with uncontrolled BP.
Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that relaxes blood vessels by blocking the action of angiotensin II, lowering blood pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic that increases salt and water excretion via the kidneys, reducing blood volume and BP. Together they provide additive blood pressure control.
Take exactly as prescribed by the doctor, usually once daily at the same time each day. Can be taken with or without food; swallow tablet with water. Maintain adequate hydration; avoid self-adjusting dose and do not stop abruptly without medical advice.
dizziness, headache, fatigue, increased urination, nausea, low blood pressure, electrolyte imbalance (low potassium/low sodium), increased uric acid, increased blood glucose, muscle cramps
Not recommended in pregnancy (can harm fetus) and generally avoid during breastfeeding unless advised. Use caution in kidney disease, liver impairment, dehydration, low sodium/potassium, gout, diabetes, and elderly; monitor kidney function and electrolytes periodically. May cause dizziness—avoid driving/operating machinery if affected. Seek urgent help for severe allergic reaction, facial/lip swelling, fainting, or signs of severe dehydration.
Other antihypertensives, diuretics, NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen, diclofenac), lithium, potassium supplements/salt substitutes, ACE inhibitors or aliskiren (higher risk in diabetes/kidney disease), corticosteroids, digoxin, antidiabetic medicines, cholestyramine/colestipol (reduce HCTZ absorption)
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from moisture and direct light. Keep in original blister/strip and out of reach of children.
