Tablet
Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure); to reduce risk of cardiovascular events (heart attack/stroke) in high-risk patients as advised by a doctor
Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It relaxes and widens blood vessels by blocking the action of angiotensin II, thereby lowering blood pressure and reducing strain on the heart.
Oral tablet. Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily at the same time, with or without food. Swallow with water; do not stop abruptly without medical advice.
Dizziness, low blood pressure, headache, fatigue, nausea, back pain, increased potassium (hyperkalemia), kidney function changes
Not recommended in pregnancy (especially 2nd/3rd trimester) as it can harm the unborn baby. Use caution in kidney disease, liver impairment, dehydration/volume depletion, and in patients with high potassium. Monitor blood pressure, kidney function and serum potassium, especially after dose changes. Seek urgent care for severe dizziness/fainting, swelling of face/lips, or reduced urine output.
Potassium supplements/salt substitutes, potassium-sparing diuretics (e.g., spironolactone, eplerenone, amiloride), ACE inhibitors/aliskiren (higher risk of kidney problems and high potassium; avoid in diabetes with aliskiren), NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen/diclofenac) may reduce effect and worsen kidney function, lithium (increased lithium levels/toxicity), diuretics may increase risk of low blood pressure
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.
