Tablet
Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure); reduction of cardiovascular risk in high‑risk patients when appropriate.
Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that blocks AT1 receptors. This relaxes blood vessels, lowers blood pressure, and reduces strain on the heart.
Oral tablet. Usually taken once daily at the same time, with or without food. Swallow with water; do not stop abruptly without medical advice. Dose and duration as prescribed by physician.
Dizziness, headache, fatigue, nausea, back pain, diarrhea, low blood pressure, increased potassium (hyperkalemia), increased creatinine
Not recommended in pregnancy (can harm unborn baby); avoid in severe liver disease/cholestasis; use caution in kidney impairment, renal artery stenosis, dehydration, low blood pressure, and in elderly. Monitor blood pressure, kidney function and serum potassium, especially when starting or dose changes. Seek help for swelling of face/lips/throat (angioedema) though rare.
ACE inhibitors (e.g., enalapril), aliskiren (esp. in diabetes/kidney disease), potassium supplements/salt substitutes, potassium-sparing diuretics (spironolactone/eplerenone/amiloride), NSAIDs (ibuprofen/diclofenac) may reduce effect and worsen kidney function, lithium (toxicity risk), diuretics and other antihypertensives (additive low BP)
