Tablet
Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure); may be used to reduce cardiovascular risk in selected high-risk patients as advised by a doctor.
Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It blocks angiotensin II at AT1 receptors, causing relaxation of blood vessels and reduced aldosterone effects, which lowers blood pressure and reduces strain on the heart.
Tablet for oral use. Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily at the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow with water; do not stop suddenly without medical advice.
Dizziness, headache, fatigue, nausea, diarrhea, back pain, low blood pressure (lightheadedness), increased potassium, increased creatinine
Not recommended in pregnancy (especially 2nd/3rd trimester) due to risk of fetal harm; stop and consult a doctor if pregnancy occurs. Use caution in kidney disease, liver impairment, dehydration, heart failure, and in elderly. Monitor blood pressure, kidney function and serum potassium. Risk of hyperkalemia especially with potassium supplements/salt substitutes. May cause dizziness—use caution while driving. Rare risk of angioedema.
Potassium supplements/salt substitutes, potassium-sparing diuretics (e.g., spironolactone/eplerenone/amiloride), ACE inhibitors or aliskiren (avoid dual blockade; contraindicated with aliskiren in diabetes), NSAIDs (may reduce effect and worsen kidney function), lithium (increased lithium levels/toxicity), diuretics (may increase first-dose hypotension)
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and direct light. Keep in original strip and out of reach of children.
