Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure); may be used to reduce cardiovascular risk (heart attack/stroke) in suitable high-risk patients as prescribed.

Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It blocks AT1 receptors, causing relaxation of blood vessels and reduced aldosterone effects, which lowers blood pressure and decreases strain on the heart.

Tablet for oral use. Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily at the same time each day; can be taken with or without food. Swallow with water; do not stop abruptly without medical advice.

Avoid use in pregnancy (can harm the unborn baby). Use caution in kidney disease, liver impairment, dehydration/volume depletion, and in patients with low blood pressure. Monitor blood pressure, kidney function and serum potassium, especially after starting or dose changes. Seek help for swelling of face/lips (angioedema) or severe dizziness/fainting.

Potassium supplements/potassium-sparing diuretics (e.g., spironolactone, amiloride), other antihypertensives (additive hypotension), NSAIDs (reduced effect/renal risk), lithium (increased lithium levels/toxicity risk), ACE inhibitors or aliskiren (higher risk of kidney impairment/hyperkalemia; avoid in diabetes with aliskiren).

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from moisture and light. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.
