Thyroneed 12.5 Tablet is a prescription medicine containing Thyroxine (12.5mcg). It is used for hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid), thyroid hormone replacement after thyroidectomy or radioiodine therapy and TSH suppression in differentiated thyroid cancer (as directed by specialist). It belongs to the group of medicines called Thyroid hormone (Synthetic T4).
Oral tablet. The dose and how long you take it depend on what you are being treated for and how you respond. Do not take more, or for longer, than your doctor has advised.
The side effects seen most often with Thyroneed 12.5 Tablet are palpitations, fast heartbeat, anxiety and restlessness. Most are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. Tell your doctor if one persists or worries you.
Before you start, tell your doctor about any liver, kidney or heart problem, whether you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding, and every other medicine you take, including supplements and ayurvedic preparations. Some of them can change how Thyroneed 12.5 Tablet works.
Most side effects of Thyroneed are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. The ones reported most often are:
Stop the medicine and get help at once for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.
Oral tablet. Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily on an empty stomach 30–60 minutes before breakfast with water. Take at the same time every day; avoid taking with calcium/iron/antacids/soy within 4 hours. Dose is individualized based on TSH/T4 and clinical response.
Levothyroxine is a synthetic form of thyroxine (T4), a natural thyroid hormone. It is converted in the body to the active hormone (T3) and helps regulate metabolism, energy, body temperature and growth. It normalizes elevated TSH levels in hypothyroidism.
Use only under medical supervision; dose errors can cause symptoms of hyperthyroidism and serious cardiac effects. Use caution in elderly and in coronary artery disease, arrhythmias, hypertension; start low and titrate. Not for weight loss/obesity treatment. Monitor TSH/FT4 periodically; dose may need adjustment during pregnancy, after delivery, and with interacting medicines. If chest pain, severe palpitations or breathlessness occur, seek medical help.
If you miss a dose of Thyroneed 12.5mcg Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
An overdose of this medicine can cause a racing heart, chest pain, tremor, fever and dangerous heart rhythm disturbance. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.
Calcium salts,iron salts,aluminium/magnesium antacids,sucralfate,cholestyramine/colestipol,sevelamer (reduce absorption); proton pump inhibitors and dietary fibre/soy may reduce absorption; rifampicin,carbamazepine,phenytoin,phenobarbital (increase metabolism); amiodarone (affects thyroid function); warfarin (increased anticoagulant effect); antidiabetics (dose adjustment may be needed); digoxin (effect may decrease); estrogen therapy (may increase dose requirement)
Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep in original blister/strip and out of reach of children.
