Pregnancy
Consult doctor (insulin is commonly used in pregnancy; dose adjustments and close monitoring required)
Alcohol
Use with caution (may increase risk of hypoglycaemia)
Treatment of diabetes mellitus to improve glycaemic control in adults; used as a long-acting (basal) insulin in type 1 diabetes (with mealtime insulin) and type 2 diabetes (alone or with other antidiabetic medicines) as prescribed.
Hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar),injection site reactions (pain, redness, swelling, itching),weight gain, lipodystrophy (skin thickening or pitting at injection site),rash, peripheral oedema
Insulin glargine is a long-acting insulin analogue. After subcutaneous injection, it forms a depot in the tissue and is slowly released, providing a steady basal insulin level that lowers blood glucose by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and reducing hepatic glucose production.

Treatment of diabetes mellitus to improve glycaemic control in adults; used as a long-acting (basal) insulin in type 1 diabetes (with mealtime insulin) and type 2 diabetes (alone or with other antidiabetic medicines) as prescribed.
Insulin glargine is a long-acting insulin analogue. After subcutaneous injection, it forms a depot in the tissue and is slowly released, providing a steady basal insulin level that lowers blood glucose by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and reducing hepatic glucose production.
For subcutaneous use only. Inject once daily at the same time each day (as advised by the doctor) into abdomen, thigh or upper arm; rotate injection sites. Do not inject into a vein or muscle and do not mix/dilute with other insulins. Follow prescribed dose and titration based on blood glucose; use the compatible insulin pen/device for Toujeo cartridges as instructed.
Hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar),injection site reactions (pain, redness, swelling, itching),weight gain, lipodystrophy (skin thickening or pitting at injection site),rash, peripheral oedema
Risk of hypoglycaemia—monitor blood glucose regularly and carry fast-acting sugar. Use caution in renal/hepatic impairment, elderly, irregular meals, increased exercise, or alcohol use. Do not use during episodes of hypoglycaemia. Not for treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis (use short-acting insulin). Switching from other insulins should be done under medical supervision (dose differences between U-100 and U-300). Seek urgent care for severe allergic reaction. Use proper injection technique and site rotation to reduce lipodystrophy.
Other antidiabetic drugs (additive hypoglycaemia),ACE inhibitors/ARBs (may increase hypoglycaemia risk),beta-blockers (may mask hypoglycaemia symptoms),corticosteroids/thyroid hormones/sympathomimetics (may increase blood glucose),thiazide diuretics (may increase blood glucose),alcohol (can increase risk of hypoglycaemia),pioglitazone/other TZDs (risk of fluid retention/heart failure when used with insulin)
