Treatment and prevention of vitamin D deficiency, rickets/osteomalacia due to vitamin D deficiency, supportive therapy in conditions requiring vitamin D supplementation (e.g., poor dietary intake, limited sun exposure)
Vitamin D3 is converted in the body to active metabolites that increase intestinal absorption of calcium and phosphate. It helps maintain normal bone mineralization and supports healthy muscle function.
Oral drops: use the calibrated dropper as directed by the physician. May be given directly into the mouth or mixed with a small amount of milk/water; avoid mixing in a full feeding bottle to ensure full dose is taken. Can be taken with or without food; taking with meals may improve absorption.
Nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, headache, increased thirst, increased urination
Use only on medical advice in infants/children. Do not exceed recommended dose; overdose can cause hypercalcaemia/hypervitaminosis D. Use with caution in kidney disease, kidney stones, hypercalcaemia, hyperparathyroidism, sarcoidosis or other granulomatous diseases. Monitor calcium/Vit D levels if on high doses or long-term therapy.
Thiazide diuretics (increased risk of hypercalcaemia), digoxin/other cardiac glycosides (arrhythmia risk with hypercalcaemia), anticonvulsants like phenytoin/phenobarbital (reduced vitamin D effect), glucocorticoids (reduced vitamin D effect), cholestyramine/orlistat (reduced absorption), aluminum-containing antacids (risk of aluminum toxicity in renal impairment)
Store at room temperature (below 25°C), protected from light and moisture. Keep bottle tightly closed and out of reach of children.
