Metformin hydrochloride 500 mg + Voglibose 0.2 mg (tablet)
Type 2 diabetes mellitus; helps control post‑meal (postprandial) blood glucose in adults when diet/exercise and/or other antidiabetic medicines are insufficient.
Voglibose is an alpha‑glucosidase inhibitor that delays breakdown and absorption of carbohydrates in the intestine, reducing post‑meal glucose spikes. Metformin decreases hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity, lowering fasting and overall blood glucose.
Take orally as prescribed, usually with or immediately after meals to reduce stomach upset. Swallow tablet whole with water; do not crush/chew unless advised. Follow diet and exercise plan and monitor blood glucose regularly.
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, flatulence, loss of appetite, metallic taste, bloating, headache, dizziness
Use with caution in kidney impairment; metformin is contraindicated in severe renal dysfunction due to risk of lactic acidosis. Avoid in severe liver disease, hypoxia (e.g., severe heart/lung failure), dehydration, sepsis, or heavy alcohol use. Temporarily stop metformin around iodinated contrast studies and major surgery as advised by doctor. Monitor kidney function and vitamin B12 with long-term use. Voglibose may cause gastrointestinal discomfort; hypoglycaemia can occur when used with insulin/sulfonylureas.
Alcohol (increases lactic acidosis risk), iodinated contrast media, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (e.g., topiramate/acetazolamide), cimetidine, diuretics, corticosteroids, thyroid hormones, sympathomimetics, antipsychotics, insulin and sulfonylureas (increased hypoglycaemia risk)
