Voglibose 0.3 mg + Metformin 500 mg (typically as Metformin Hydrochloride)
Type 2 diabetes mellitus; used to improve blood sugar control (especially post-meal glucose) along with diet and exercise
Voglibose inhibits intestinal alpha-glucosidase enzymes, delaying carbohydrate digestion and reducing post-meal blood glucose spikes. Metformin decreases hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity, increasing peripheral glucose uptake.
Tablet for oral use. Take as advised by doctor, usually with meals; voglibose-containing combinations are commonly taken just before the main meals to control post-meal sugar. Swallow whole with water; do not skip meals. Dose is individualized based on blood glucose, kidney function and tolerance.
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, flatulence, bloating, loss of appetite, headache, dizziness, metallic taste
Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Metformin can rarely cause lactic acidosis—risk increases with kidney impairment, severe dehydration, sepsis, heavy alcohol use, liver disease, or hypoxia; monitor renal function before and during therapy. Use caution in elderly and in patients with heart failure. Temporarily stop metformin before/after iodinated contrast procedures or major surgery as advised. Voglibose may cause gastrointestinal discomfort; start/uptitrate gradually if needed. Monitor blood glucose and HbA1c regularly; hypoglycaemia risk increases if used with insulin or sulfonylureas.
Alcohol (increases lactic acidosis risk), iodinated contrast media, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (e.g., topiramate/acetazolamide), cimetidine, ranolazine, dolutegravir, diuretics, corticosteroids, thyroid hormones, sympathomimetics, antipsychotics, insulin and sulfonylureas (increased hypoglycaemia risk when combined)
