Monograph
Volyvit Syrup is a prescription medicine. It is used for protein supplementation, nutritional support, recovery, convalescence, vitamin b deficiency, nerve pain, tingling, anaemia, tiredness due to deficiency, dry skin, eczema, skin barrier repair and itching due to dryness.
Shake the bottle well before each dose and measure it with the cup, spoon or dropper supplied. The dose and how long you take it depend on what you are being treated for and how you respond. Do not take more, or for longer, than your doctor has advised.
The side effects seen most often with Volyvit Syrup are bloating, flatulence, loose motions and nausea. Most are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. Tell your doctor if one persists or worries you.
Before you start, tell your doctor about any liver, kidney or heart problem, whether you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding, and every other medicine you take, including supplements and ayurvedic preparations. Some of them can change how Volyvit Syrup works.
Most side effects of Volyvit are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. The ones reported most often are:
Stop the medicine and get help at once for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.
Shake the bottle well before each dose and measure it with the cup, spoon or dropper supplied — a kitchen spoon is not an accurate measure. Take it with or between meals. Follow the dose and the duration written on your prescription.
This medicine combines 7 active ingredients: Lysine, Niacinamide, D-panthenol, Riboflavin, Thiamine, Pyridoxine and Methylcobalamin. Lysine supplies protein and amino acids, the building blocks your body uses to repair and maintain muscle and tissue. Niacinamide replaces a B vitamin your body needs to make red blood cells, to keep nerves healthy and to release energy from food. D-panthenol holds water in the skin and restores the barrier that dry, damaged skin has lost. Riboflavin replaces a B vitamin your body needs to make red blood cells, to keep nerves healthy and to release energy from food. Thiamine replaces a B vitamin your body needs to make red blood cells, to keep nerves healthy and to release energy from food. Pyridoxine replaces a B vitamin your body needs to make red blood cells, to keep nerves healthy and to release energy from food. Methylcobalamin replaces a B vitamin your body needs to make red blood cells, to keep nerves healthy and to release energy from food.
Tell your doctor before taking a protein supplement if you have kidney disease — the protein load matters. Drink plenty of water while taking a protein supplement. Check the label for milk or soy if you have an allergy or are lactose intolerant. Tingling, numbness or burning in the hands and feet should be assessed by a doctor rather than self-treated — a supplement does not address the cause. Folic acid can mask a vitamin B12 deficiency while nerve damage continues, so B12 should be checked before taking folic acid long term. Bright yellow urine after a B-complex dose is expected and harmless. Apply generously and often — several times a day, and always within a few minutes of a bath while the skin is still damp. Some paraffin-based emollients are flammable when they soak into clothing and bedding. Keep away from open flames and cigarettes. Stop if the skin becomes more red, itchy or sore after use. Do not take high-dose vitamin B6 for long periods without medical advice — sustained excess can cause nerve damage.
Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.
An overdose of this medicine may cause stomach upset and, with prolonged excess, puts avoidable load on the kidneys. It is unlikely to cause serious harm, because the body passes surplus B vitamins out in the urine. It is not a realistic risk from a moisturiser used on the skin. It in very large doses taken over months can itself damage nerves, causing numbness and unsteadiness. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.
Store below 30°C, away from direct sunlight. Do not freeze. Once opened, use it within the period printed on the pack. Keep out of the reach of children.
