Uses & Benefits
Prevention and treatment of vitamin D deficiency in infants/children, supports calcium absorption, helps in rickets prevention and healthy bone/teeth development
How It Works
Vitamin D3 is converted in the body to active vitamin D (calcitriol), which increases absorption of calcium and phosphate from the intestine. This helps maintain normal blood calcium levels and supports bone mineralization and growth.
Directions for Use
Oral drops. Use the calibrated dropper as directed by the physician/label. Can be given directly into the mouth or mixed with a small amount of milk/food; do not mix in a full bottle feed to ensure full dose. Follow recommended daily dose; avoid exceeding prescribed amount.
Side Effects
Nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, headache, increased urination, weakness
Warnings & Precautions
Do not exceed recommended dose; overdose may cause hypercalcemia. Use with caution in kidney disease, kidney stones, hyperparathyroidism, sarcoidosis or other granulomatous diseases. If the child is taking other vitamin D/calcium supplements, consult a doctor to avoid excess. Seek medical advice if symptoms of high calcium occur (persistent vomiting, constipation, excessive thirst/urination, lethargy).
Drug Interactions
Thiazide diuretics (risk of hypercalcemia), digoxin and other cardiac glycosides (arrhythmia risk with hypercalcemia), anticonvulsants like phenytoin/phenobarbital/carbamazepine (reduced vitamin D effect), rifampicin (reduced effect), cholestyramine/orlistat (reduced absorption), corticosteroids (reduced effect), aluminum/magnesium-containing antacids in renal impairment (risk of toxicity)
