Monograph
Zinc (as Zinc Gluconate) 20 mg per 5 ml (elemental zinc)
Treatment and prevention of zinc deficiency; supportive therapy in acute and persistent diarrhoea (especially in children); supports immunity and recovery during infections and poor appetite
Zinc is an essential trace element required for normal immune function, growth, and wound healing. Supplementation corrects zinc deficiency and helps restore intestinal mucosal integrity and enzyme function, which can reduce duration and severity of diarrhoea.
Oral suspension. Shake well before use. Take as advised by doctor; may be taken with food to reduce stomach upset. Use a measuring cup/spoon; continue for the prescribed duration (commonly 10–14 days in diarrhoea in children).
Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, metallic taste, indigestion
Do not exceed recommended dose. Use with caution in patients with kidney disease. Long-term/high-dose zinc may cause copper deficiency and anaemia. Stop and seek medical advice if allergic reactions occur. In diarrhoea, ensure adequate ORS and medical evaluation for dehydration/blood in stool/high fever.
Tetracyclines (e.g., doxycycline), quinolones (e.g., ciprofloxacin/levofloxacin), penicillamine, iron/calcium supplements—separate dosing by 2–4 hours as zinc can reduce absorption; may reduce absorption of some antibiotics
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from light. Keep bottle tightly closed. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
