How to choose
Strength: 5% is the sensible starting point for most people, and enough for many; 10% is popular for oil control but can sting or flush on sensitive skin. Higher is not always better. Extras: zinc PCA is often paired for oily skin; hyaluronic acid adds hydration. Texture: a water-light serum suits Indian humidity. Use: apply a few drops after cleansing, once a day to start, and always follow with moisturiser and morning sunscreen. Results from niacinamide are gradual, usually 6 to 8 weeks. Patch-test on the jaw for two days before full-face use.
Who really needs this
Oily or combination skin, enlarged-looking pores, mild uneven tone and post-acne marks, and people who tolerate vitamin C or retinoids poorly and want a gentler active. Skip or go slow with very sensitive skin, rosacea, or an allergy history to skincare. A serum will not treat active inflamed acne or melasma by itself; see a dermatologist for those.
