Composition of Allegra Suspension

Allegra Suspension contains Fexofenadine hydrochloride 30 mg/5 ml oral suspension. It belongs to the Second-generation H1 antihistamine class of medicines.

How Allegra Suspension works

Fexofenadine is a second-generation antihistamine that selectively blocks peripheral H1 receptors. This reduces the action of histamine released during allergic reactions, relieving sneezing, itching, watery eyes and hives with minimal sedation.

How to take Allegra Suspension

Oral suspension: shake well before use and measure with a dosing cup/syringe. Can be taken with or without food; take at the same time each day as prescribed. Avoid taking with fruit juices (apple/orange/grapefruit) close to the dose; keep a 2-hour gap from aluminium/magnesium antacids.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take the missed dose of Allegra as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.

If you take too much

Taking more Allegra than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.

Side effects of Allegra Suspension

Most side effects of Allegra are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Headache
• dizziness
• nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhoea
• fatigue
• drowsiness (rare)
• dry mouth

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Do not exceed the prescribed dose. Use with caution in severe kidney impairment; dose adjustment may be needed. If you feel sleepy or dizzy, avoid driving/operating machinery. Seek medical help for swelling of face/lips/throat, breathing difficulty, or severe rash. Not for acute anaphylaxis.

Interactions with other medicines

Fruit juices (apple, orange, grapefruit) may reduce absorption; aluminium/magnesium antacids reduce absorption (separate by 2 hours); erythromycin and ketoconazole may increase fexofenadine levels (usually not clinically significant)

How to store Allegra Suspension

Store below 25°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep bottle tightly closed; do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
