Alprax Plus Tablet contains Alprazolam (0.5mg) + Sertraline (25mg). It belongs to the Benzodiazepine (alprazolam) + Non-selective beta-adrenergic blocker (propranolol) class of medicines.

How Alprax Plus Tablet works

Warnings and precautions

Prescription-only medicine. Alprazolam may cause sedation, impaired alertness and dependence; avoid driving/operating machinery. Do not stop alprazolam abruptly (withdrawal risk). Propranolol can cause bradycardia/hypotension and may worsen asthma/COPD; use caution in diabetes (masks hypoglycaemia), thyroid disease, depression, heart block, heart failure. Use cautiously in liver/kidney impairment and in elderly. Seek urgent help for severe dizziness, fainting, breathing problems, mood changes or suicidal thoughts.

Do not take Alprax Plus if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with severe breathing problems, sleep apnoea, or severe liver disease. Not for anyone with a history of dependence, except under specialist supervision. Must not be combined with a monoamine oxidase inhibitor, or started within the gap your doctor specifies after one.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol and other CNS depressants (additive sedation), opioids (respiratory depression/sedation), azole antifungals/macrolides/ritonavir and other CYP3A4 inhibitors (increase alprazolam levels), grapefruit juice (may increase alprazolam), other antihypertensives (additive BP lowering), calcium channel blockers like verapamil/diltiazem (bradycardia/heart block), antiarrhythmics (bradycardia), clonidine (rebound hypertension if stopped abruptly), insulin/oral antidiabetics (masked hypoglycaemia), NSAIDs (reduced antihypertensive effect possible)

Alprax Plus Tablet SR is prescribed for the treatment of depression. Inform your doctor immediately if you get thoughts about harming yourself or ending your life. It is also advisable to inform your doctor if you get aggressive, anxiety, trouble sleeping, an increase in activity or talking more than what is normal for you, and other unusual changes in behavior or mood. Do not stop taking Alprax Plus Tablet SR unless your doctor tells you to do so. Stopping treatment suddenly can cause problems and your doctor will probably want you to reduce your dose gradually when this becomes necessary. Avoid the use of Alprax Plus Tablet SR along with certain medications like aspirin, warfarin, ibuprofen, or naproxen as it might increase the risk of bleeding. Inform your doctor if you observe changes in appetite or weight. Inform your doctor if you are taking any other antidepressant. If you have diabetes, you will be asked to monitor your blood glucose level regularly as Alprax Plus Tablet SR may affect the levels of sugar in your blood. Try to keep your regular appointments with your doctor. This is so your doctor can check on your progress.
