How Aricep 10 mg works

Memory loss in Alzheimer’s disease occurs due to disturbances of signal transmission in the brain. Aricep 10 Tablet is a cholinesterase inhibitor. It works by increasing the levels of a chemical messenger (acetylcholine) involved in transmmission of nerve signals. This improves memory and thinking.

How to take Aricep 10 mg

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Aricep 10 Tablet may be taken with or without food.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose of Aricep 10 Tablet, skip it and continue with your normal schedule. Do not double the dose.\n

Never stop a Parkinson's medicine suddenly — this can cause a severe and dangerous deterioration. Dose timing matters a great deal in Parkinson's disease. Take it at exactly the times prescribed. Report sudden daytime sleep attacks, hallucinations, or new gambling, spending or other impulsive behaviour — these are recognised effects and the dose may need review. Rise slowly from sitting or lying; a drop in blood pressure on standing is common.

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Your doctor will assess suitability if you have heart, eye or psychiatric conditions.

Interactions with other medicines

Anti-emetics such as metoclopramide and some antipsychotics can worsen Parkinson's symptoms. High-protein meals can reduce the absorption of levodopa — ask your doctor about timing.

You have been prescribed Aricep 10 Tablet to slow down the progression of Alzheimer's disease. It does not cure Alzheimer's disease but may help improve brain function and ability to do daily activities. Take it with or without food, preferably at night before going to bed. It may cause diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. Drink plenty of fluids to keep yourself hydrated while taking Aricep 10 Tablet. Monitor your body weight regularly as both Aricep 10 Tablet and Alzheimer's disease can cause weight loss. Do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus until you know how Aricep 10 Tablet affects you. Be cautious while taking this medicine if you suffer from peptic ulcer as it may cause vomiting, stomach bleeding, stomach pain, or discomfort. Inform your doctor if you develop muscle tremors, especially if you have Parkinson’s disease. Inform your doctor if you experience seizures or convulsions while taking this medicine.
