Composition of Azirib 500 Tablet

Azirib 500 Tablet contains Azithromycin (500mg). It belongs to the Macrolide antibiotic class of medicines.

How Azirib 500 Tablet works

Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. This stops growth of susceptible bacteria and helps clear the infection.

How to take Azirib 500 Tablet

Tablet for oral use. Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily; may be taken with or without food (take with food if stomach upset occurs). Swallow whole with water and complete the full course; avoid taking antacids containing aluminium/magnesium within 2 hours of the dose.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take the missed dose of Azirib as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.

If you take too much

Taking more Azirib than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.

Side effects of Azirib 500 Tablet

Most side effects of Azirib are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhoea
• abdominal pain
• indigestion
• headache
• dizziness
• taste disturbance

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Safety advice for Azirib 500 Tablet

Warnings and precautions

Use only for suspected/confirmed bacterial infections (not viral). Use with caution in liver disease, history of cholestatic jaundice/hepatitis, myasthenia gravis, and in patients with QT prolongation/arrhythmias or low potassium/magnesium (risk of serious heart rhythm problems). Seek urgent care for severe allergy (rash, swelling, breathing difficulty) or severe/persistent diarrhoea (may indicate C. difficile). Dose adjustment/monitoring may be needed in severe renal impairment. May reduce effectiveness of oral typhoid vaccine.

Interactions with other medicines

Warfarin/other anticoagulants (increased bleeding risk), antiarrhythmics and QT-prolonging drugs (e.g., amiodarone, sotalol, quinidine, certain antipsychotics/fluoroquinolones), ergot derivatives (avoid), digoxin (increased levels), cyclosporine (increased levels), antacids containing aluminium/magnesium (reduced absorption if taken together), statins (rare myopathy risk), nelfinavir

How to store Azirib 500 Tablet

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
