Baycip 250 mg contains Ciprofloxacin (250mg). It belongs to the Fluoroquinolone antibiotic class of medicines.

How Baycip 250 mg works

Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. It kills bacteria by inhibiting DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes required for bacterial DNA replication and repair.

How to take Baycip 250 mg

Tablet for oral use. Take exactly as prescribed, usually with water; may be taken with or without food (avoid taking with milk/curd alone). Do not take together with antacids or supplements containing calcium, magnesium, aluminium, iron or zinc; keep a 2–6 hour gap. Complete the full course even if you feel better.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Baycip 250mg Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause kidney injury, fits and heart rhythm disturbance. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Baycip 250 mg

Most side effects of Baycip are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Nausea

• abdominal pain
• vomiting
• headache
• dizziness
• insomnia
• skin rash
• photosensitivity
• taste disturbance

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Use only for bacterial infections. Stop and seek medical help if tendon pain/swelling occurs (risk of tendonitis/rupture; higher in elderly and with steroids), severe diarrhoea, allergic reaction, numbness/tingling (peripheral neuropathy), seizures/confusion, or severe skin reactions. Use with caution in epilepsy/CNS disorders, kidney disease (dose adjustment may be needed), myasthenia gravis, diabetes (may affect blood sugar), and in patients at risk of QT prolongation/arrhythmias. Avoid excessive sunlight/UV exposure. Not generally recommended in pregnancy and in children/adolescents unless clearly needed.

Do not take Baycip if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Generally avoided in children and adolescents, in pregnancy, and in anyone with a history of tendon problems with these antibiotics.

Interactions with other medicines

Antacids and mineral supplements (Al/Mg/Ca/Fe/Zn),sucralfate,didanosine (buffered),warfarin/acenocoumarol (increased bleeding risk),theophylline,caffeine,tizanidine (contraindicated),clozapine,antiarrhythmics/QT-prolonging drugs,NSAIDs (may increase seizure risk),corticosteroids (increased tendon rupture risk),methotrexate,probenecid

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Your doctor has prescribed Baycip 250mg Tablet to cure your infection and improve symptoms. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Discontinue Baycip 250mg Tablet and inform your doctor immediately if you get a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or have difficulty in breathing. Diarrhea may occur as a side effect but should stop when your course is complete. Inform your doctor if it doesn't stop or if you find blood in your stools. Notify your doctor if you feel pain in your tendons, numbness, or tingling sensations. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to conceive or breastfeeding.
