Ciprofloxacin 250 mg (as ciprofloxacin hydrochloride) tablets
Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections such as urinary tract infections, typhoid fever, gastrointestinal infections (including traveller’s diarrhoea), respiratory tract infections, skin/soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, and certain genital infections as advised by a doctor
Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. It kills bacteria by inhibiting DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes required for bacterial DNA replication and repair.
Tablet for oral use. Take exactly as prescribed, usually with water; may be taken with or without food (avoid taking with milk/curd alone). Do not take together with antacids or supplements containing calcium, magnesium, aluminium, iron or zinc; keep a 2–6 hour gap. Complete the full course even if you feel better.
Common side effects of BAYCIP 250MG may include:
Use only for bacterial infections. Stop and seek medical help if tendon pain/swelling occurs (risk of tendonitis/rupture; higher in elderly and with steroids), severe diarrhoea, allergic reaction, numbness/tingling (peripheral neuropathy), seizures/confusion, or severe skin reactions. Use with caution in epilepsy/CNS disorders, kidney disease (dose adjustment may be needed), myasthenia gravis, diabetes (may affect blood sugar), and in patients at risk of QT prolongation/arrhythmias. Avoid excessive sunlight/UV exposure. Not generally recommended in pregnancy and in children/adolescents unless clearly needed.
