Composition of Baycip Tz

Baycip Tz contains Ciprofloxacin (500mg) + Tinidazole (600mg). It belongs to the Fluoroquinolone + Nitroimidazole class of medicines.

How Baycip Tz works

Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase/topoisomerase IV, stopping bacterial replication. Tinidazole is a nitroimidazole that forms reactive metabolites in anaerobic bacteria and protozoa, damaging DNA and leading to cell death.

How to take Baycip Tz

Take by mouth as prescribed by a doctor. Usually taken after food with water; swallow whole. Complete the full course; avoid taking with milk/antacids/iron or zinc supplements within 2 hours before or 4–6 hours after ciprofloxacin.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Baycip TZ 500mg/600mg Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause kidney injury, fits and heart rhythm disturbance. It can cause vomiting, severe loose motions and nerve symptoms. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Baycip Tz

Most side effects of Baycip Tz are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• abdominal pain
• diarrhoea
• metallic taste
• headache
• dizziness
• loss of appetite

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Prescription-only antibiotic; do not use for non-infectious diarrhoea. Fluoroquinolones may cause tendonitis/tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, CNS effects (seizures, confusion), and can worsen myasthenia gravis—seek medical help if pain/swelling in tendons or tingling/numbness occurs. Risk of QT prolongation and dysglycaemia in susceptible patients. Use caution in kidney/liver disease; dose adjustment may be needed. Tinidazole may cause dark urine and rarely blood count changes. Stop and seek care for severe diarrhoea, rash, jaundice, or allergic reaction. Avoid excessive sun exposure (photosensitivity risk with ciprofloxacin).

Do not take Baycip Tz if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Generally avoided in children and adolescents, in pregnancy, and in anyone with a history of tendon problems with these antibiotics.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol (disulfiram-like reaction with tinidazole), antacids/sucralfate/iron/zinc/calcium supplements (reduce ciprofloxacin absorption), warfarin/acenocoumarol (increased bleeding risk), antiarrhythmics that prolong QT, theophylline, tizanidine (contraindicated with ciprofloxacin), antidiabetic drugs (hypo/hyperglycaemia), NSAIDs (seizure risk), corticosteroids (increased tendon rupture risk)

How to store Baycip Tz

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Baycip Tz

Diarrhea can cause dehydration. Drink plenty of fluids to help rehydrate you. Consult your doctor if your diarrhea lasts for more than 48 hours. Do not use Baycip TZ 500mg/600mg Tablet if you have blood in your stool or if you are severely constipated. It may cause dizziness and sleepiness. Do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus until you know how it affects you. Avoid consuming alcohol when taking Baycip TZ 500mg/600mg Tablet as it may irritate your stomach and also cause excessive drowsiness. Notify your doctor if you feel pain in your tendons, numbness, or tingling sensations. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to conceive or breastfeeding.
