Composition of Betnovate C Cream

Betnovate C Cream contains Betamethasone (0.1% w/w) + Clioquinol (Iodochlorhydroxyquin) (3% w/w). It belongs to the Topical corticosteroid + Antibacterial/antifungal (hydroxyquinoline) class of medicines.

How Betnovate C Cream works

Betamethasone is a topical corticosteroid that reduces redness, swelling and itching by suppressing inflammatory mediators. Clioquinol has antibacterial and antifungal activity against common skin pathogens, helping control infection.

How to take Betnovate C Cream

For external use only. Apply a thin layer to the affected area 1-2 times daily as advised; use the smallest amount for the shortest duration. Avoid use on face, groin or under occlusion unless prescribed; wash hands after application.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Betnovate-C Cream, apply it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause weight gain, high blood sugar, bone thinning and suppression of the body's own steroid production when it is taken over a prolonged period. It is unlikely from skin use. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Betnovate C Cream

Most side effects of Betnovate C are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• skin thinning (atrophy)
• stretch marks
• acneiform eruptions
• hypopigmentation
• contact dermatitis

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Do not use on viral infections (herpes, chickenpox), acne or rosacea. Prolonged or extensive use, use on broken skin, or use under bandage can increase steroid absorption causing adrenal suppression; risk higher in children. Stop and seek medical advice if worsening, no improvement in 7 days, or signs of allergy. Avoid eyes and mucous membranes.

Do not take Betnovate C if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with an untreated systemic infection, except where the steroid is part of the treatment. Not for use in or around the eyes.

Interactions with other medicines

Other topical corticosteroids or occlusive dressings increase systemic absorption; concomitant use with other topical irritants may increase local irritation.

Store below 25°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep cap tightly closed.

Stop using Betnovate-C Cream and consult your doctor if redness, irritation, or infection appears to worsen. Keep the affected skin clean and dry and avoid scratching the area. Seek medical advice if there is pus, spreading redness, severe pain, or fever. Consult your doctor if the condition does not improve or worsens.
