Doxy 1 l.Dr. Forte Capsule contains Doxycycline 100 mg (as doxycycline hyclate) capsule. It belongs to the Tetracycline antibiotic class of medicines.

How Doxy 1 l.Dr. Forte Capsule works

Doxycycline is a tetracycline antibiotic. It inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, thereby stopping bacterial growth. It is generally bacteriostatic and effective against a broad range of susceptible organisms.

How to take Doxy 1 l.Dr. Forte Capsule

Take exactly as prescribed. Swallow the capsule whole with a full glass of water; take while sitting/standing and avoid lying down for at least 30 minutes. Preferably take after food if it causes stomach upset; avoid taking with milk/dairy, antacids, iron or calcium supplements within 2 hours of the dose.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take the missed dose of Doxy as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.

If you take too much

Taking more Doxy than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.

Side effects of Doxy 1 l.Dr. Forte Capsule

Most side effects of Doxy are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhoea
• abdominal pain
• indigestion
• loss of appetite
• headache
• dizziness
• photosensitivity (sunburn)
• skin rash
• oesophagitis/heartburn
• vaginal/oral candidiasis

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Not recommended in pregnancy and in children below 8 years due to risk of teeth discoloration and effects on bone growth. Use with caution in liver disease, history of oesophageal irritation/ulcer, and in patients with myasthenia gravis. Can cause severe sun sensitivity—use sunscreen and avoid excessive sunlight. Stop and seek medical help if severe diarrhoea, allergic reaction, or signs of intracranial hypertension (persistent headache/blurred vision) occur.

Interactions with other medicines

Antacids containing aluminium/magnesium, calcium supplements, iron/zinc supplements (reduced absorption), warfarin (increased bleeding risk), isotretinoin/retinoids (increased risk of intracranial hypertension), penicillins (may reduce effect), enzyme inducers like phenytoin/carbamazepine/barbiturates (reduced doxycycline levels), oral contraceptives (reduced efficacy—use additional contraception)

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep in original pack and out of reach of children.
