Montelukast (as Montelukast Sodium) + Levocetirizine (as Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride) suspension (strengths unknown)
Emkast-L Suspension is used for allergic rhinitis (seasonal/perennial) symptoms such as sneezing, runny/blocked nose and watery eyes; adjunctive therapy in allergy-associated wheeze/asthma prevention and control as prescribed.
Medically reviewed by Dr. Balaji Krishnan, MBBS · Updated August 2026
Emkast-L Suspension contains Montelukast (as Montelukast Sodium) + Levocetirizine (as Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride) suspension (strengths unknown). It belongs to the Second-generation H1 antihistamine (Levocetirizine) + Leukotriene receptor antagonist (Montelukast) class of medicines.
Levocetirizine is a second-generation antihistamine that blocks H1 receptors to reduce allergy symptoms like sneezing, itching and runny nose. Montelukast blocks leukotriene receptors (CysLT1), decreasing airway inflammation, mucus and bronchoconstriction to help relieve allergy-related nasal symptoms and prevent wheeze.
Shake well before use. Measure the dose with a calibrated spoon/cup and take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily (often in the evening). Can be taken with or without food; do not exceed the recommended dose.
Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.
Take the missed dose of Emkast-L as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.
Taking more Emkast-L than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.
Most side effects of Emkast-L are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:
Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.
| Pregnancy | Consult doctor |

| Alcohol | Use with caution |
| Habit forming | No |
Use with caution in liver disease. May cause drowsiness—avoid driving/operating machinery until you know the effect. Montelukast is not for relief of acute asthma attacks; keep a rescue inhaler as advised. Rare but serious mood/behavior changes (agitation, insomnia, depression, suicidal thoughts) can occur—stop and seek medical help if these appear. Consult doctor for children, pregnancy, breastfeeding, or if symptoms persist.
Alcohol and other CNS depressants (increased drowsiness), sedating antihistamines, rifampicin/phenytoin/phenobarbital (may reduce montelukast levels), theophylline (possible interaction), strong CYP inducers
Store at room temperature (below 25°C), protected from light and moisture. Keep bottle tightly closed. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
