Erytop Gel contains Clindamycin (1% w/w). It belongs to the Lincosamide antibiotic (topical) class of medicines.

How Erytop Gel works

Clindamycin is a lincosamide antibiotic that reduces acne-causing bacteria (Cutibacterium acnes) on the skin and decreases inflammation. This helps reduce pimples and redness over time.

How to take Erytop Gel

For external use only. Clean and dry affected area, then apply a thin layer once or twice daily as advised. Avoid eyes, mouth, nostrils and broken skin; wash hands after application.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Erytop Gel, apply it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause vomiting, severe loose motions and nerve symptoms. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Erytop Gel

Most side effects of Erytop are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• redness
• itching
• peeling

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Stop and consult a doctor if severe irritation occurs. Rarely, topical clindamycin can cause antibiotic-associated diarrhea/colitis; seek care for severe diarrhea. Avoid prolonged unnecessary use to reduce resistance; may be used with benzoyl peroxide as prescribed.

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack.

Interactions with other medicines

Avoid applying with other irritating topical products (retinoids, peeling agents, alcohol-based toners) unless advised; concomitant topical antibiotics may increase irritation

How to store Erytop Gel

Store below 25°C, tightly closed, away from heat and sunlight. Do not freeze.

You have been prescribed Erytop Gel for the treatment of acne. You may have to use it for a long time before your acne starts to improve. Be patient and keep using it every day. Wash your skin with a mild cleanser and pat it dry before applying Erytop Gel. Apply it as a thin layer onto clean, dry, unbroken skin affected by acne. It may cause minor burning, stinging, or irritation when applied. Inform your doctor if this does not go away. Avoid contact with your eyes, nose, or mouth. Rinse it off with water if you accidentally get the cream in these areas. If you think the area of skin you are treating has become more irritated and infected, you should stop using Erytop Gel and consult your doctor.
