Euthyrox 50 Tablet contains Levothyroxine (50mcg). It belongs to the Thyroid hormone (synthetic T4) class of medicines.

How Euthyrox 50 Tablet works

Levothyroxine is a synthetic form of thyroxine (T4), a natural thyroid hormone. It is converted to the active hormone (T3) in the body and restores normal thyroid hormone levels, helping regulate metabolism, energy and body temperature.

How to take Euthyrox 50 Tablet

Tablet to be taken exactly as prescribed. Usually taken once daily on an empty stomach, preferably in the morning 30–60 minutes before breakfast with water. Take at the same time each day; avoid taking along with calcium/iron/antacids—keep a gap of at least 4 hours.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause a racing heart, chest pain, tremor, fever and dangerous heart rhythm disturbance. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Euthyrox 50 Tablet

Most side effects of Euthyrox are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• weight loss
• diarrhoea
• menstrual irregularities

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Prescription-only (Schedule H). Do not use for weight loss. Dose needs individual titration and periodic TSH/T4 monitoring. Use caution in elderly patients and those with coronary artery disease, heart failure, arrhythmias or hypertension—overtreatment may cause angina, atrial fibrillation and osteoporosis. In adrenal insufficiency, treat adrenal condition before starting levothyroxine. If symptoms of hyperthyroidism occur (palpitations, chest pain, anxiety, unexplained weight loss), contact doctor; do not stop abruptly without advice.

Do not take Euthyrox if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with an untreated overactive thyroid or untreated adrenal insufficiency.

Interactions with other medicines

Calcium salts,iron salts,aluminium/magnesium antacids,sucralfate,cholestyramine/colestipol,sevelamer,orlistat (reduced absorption); rifampicin,carbamazepine,phenytoin,phenobarbital (increased metabolism); sertraline (may increase requirement); amiodarone (affects thyroid function); warfarin (increased anticoagulant effect); insulin/antidiabetics (dose adjustment may be needed); digoxin (effect may reduce); estrogen therapy (may increase dose requirement).

Store below 25°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep in original pack; keep out of reach of children.
