Forecox Tablet contains Isoniazid (300mg) + Rifampicin (450mg) + Ethambutol (800mg) + Pyrazinamide (750mg). It belongs to the Anti-tuberculosis agent class of medicines.

Side effects of Forecox Tablet

Most side effects of Forecox are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

TB treatment must be taken every day for the whole course, usually six months or more. Stopping early is the main cause of drug-resistant TB, which is far harder to treat. Rifampicin turns urine, sweat and tears orange-red. This is harmless, but it permanently stains soft contact lenses. Report yellowing of the eyes or skin, dark urine, persistent vomiting or severe tiredness at once — the liver needs checking. Report any change in vision, including colour vision, immediately if you are on ethambutol. Rifampicin makes hormonal contraception unreliable. Use an additional method throughout and for a period after the course.

Do not take Forecox if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Your doctor will adjust or change the regimen in significant liver disease.

Interactions with other medicines

Rifampicin reduces the effect of a very large number of medicines, including contraceptives, blood thinners, steroids, some heart and HIV medicines. Vitamin B6 is usually given alongside isoniazid to prevent nerve damage — take it as prescribed.

How to store Forecox Tablet

Store below 30°C in the original pack, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.

Expert advice for Forecox Tablet

You have been prescribed Forecox Kit for the treatment of tuberculosis. Take it on an empty stomach and preferably at the same time everyday. Try not to forget a dose, as this increases the risk of the bacteria becoming resistant to the medicine, and also increases the risk of getting side effects. It may discolour your urine, sweat, saliva and tears a reddish/orange colour. This is normal and not harmful. Your doctor may check your liver function before starting treatment and regularly thereafter. Inform your doctor if you notice yellowing of eyes or skin, dark urine, or stomach pain. Avoid drinking alcohol while taking Forecox Kit as this may increase the risk of side effects on the liver. It may cause vitamin B6 deficiency. Your doctor may prescribe vitamin B6 supplements to help avoid potential problems associated with its deficiency, such as inflammation of the nerves (neuritis). Use a reliable contraceptive method (such as condoms or a diaphragm) to prevent pregnancy while you are taking Forecox Kit as it may make hormonal contraceptives such as the pill less effective. Do not take indigestion remedies (antacids) within at least two hours of taking Forecox Kit. Finish the full course of the medication, even if you feel better. Stopping the course early increases the risk of coming back of the infection.
