Composition of Gent-B Cream

Gent-B Cream contains Gentamicin 0.1% w/w + Beclomethasone dipropionate 0.025% w/w (cream). It belongs to the Aminoglycoside antibiotic + topical corticosteroid class of medicines.

How Gent-B Cream works

Gentamicin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that kills susceptible bacteria by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. Beclomethasone is a corticosteroid that reduces redness, swelling and itching by suppressing inflammatory mediators in the skin.

How to take Gent-B Cream

For external use only. Clean and dry the affected area, then apply a thin layer 1–2 times daily or as prescribed. Use for the shortest duration needed; avoid covering with tight occlusive dressings unless advised. Wash hands after application and avoid contact with eyes, mouth and genital areas.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Apply it as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for the next application, skip the missed one — applying extra does not make up for it.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause vomiting, severe loose motions and nerve symptoms. It can cause a racing heart, marked tremor, headache and a fall in blood potassium. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Gent-B Cream

Most side effects of Gent-B are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• itching
• redness
• dryness
• irritation
• skin thinning (atrophy)
• striae
• acneiform eruptions
• folliculitis
• hypopigmentation

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Do not use on viral or fungal skin infections (e.g., herpes, chickenpox, ringworm) unless prescribed with appropriate therapy. Avoid use on large areas, broken skin, under diapers/occlusion, or for prolonged periods due to risk of steroid side effects and antibiotic resistance. Use caution in children and on face/groin/armpits. Stop and consult a doctor if worsening, no improvement in 3–5 days, or signs of allergy occur.

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for anyone with a known allergy to the propellant used in the inhaler.

Interactions with other medicines

No major systemic interactions expected with topical use; increased risk of side effects with other topical corticosteroids or occlusive dressings. Avoid combining with other topical antibiotics/irritants on the same area unless advised.

How to store Gent-B Cream

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from heat and light. Keep the tube tightly closed and out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Gent-B Cream

Space the doses evenly and complete the course. Take tetracyclines with a full glass of water and stay upright for half an hour afterwards. Never use a leftover antibiotic, or someone else's, for a new illness. Keep a spare reliever and check the counter so you are not caught with an empty one. Follow your written asthma action plan if you have one. Do not stop a preventer because you feel better — that is the medicine working.
