Warnings and precautions

Use with caution in kidney or liver impairment and in the elderly; kidney function should be assessed periodically. Temporarily stop metformin before/after iodinated contrast procedures and major surgery as advised by doctor. Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for type 1 diabetes or for diabetic ketoacidosis. Not for people with severe kidney or liver disease. Not for people with severe kidney disease, severe liver disease, or an acute illness causing dehydration. Not for people who have had diabetic ketoacidosis.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol, insulin/other antidiabetics (increased hypoglycaemia), beta-blockers (mask hypoglycaemia), corticosteroids (raise glucose), thiazide/loop diuretics (raise glucose), ACE inhibitors (may increase hypoglycaemia), NSAIDs/salicylates (increase sulfonylurea effect), cimetidine (increases metformin levels), iodinated contrast media (lactic acidosis risk), quinolones (glucose disturbances)
