Composition of Grilinctus Paed

Grilinctus Paed contains Phenylephrine (2.5mg/5ml) + Paracetamol (125mg/5ml) + Chlorpheniramine (1mg/5ml). It belongs to the Peripherally acting antitussive (Levodropropizine) class of medicines.

How Grilinctus Paed works

Levodropropizine is a peripherally acting antitussive. It reduces cough by decreasing the sensitivity of cough receptors in the airways and inhibiting cough reflex pathways without significant central nervous system suppression at recommended doses.

How to take Grilinctus Paed

Oral syrup. Shake well before use and measure with a calibrated spoon/cup. Give the dose as prescribed by the doctor; may be taken with or without food. Do not use for prolonged periods without medical advice; maintain adequate hydration.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause vomiting, severe drowsiness, a racing heart and, with codeine, dangerously slow breathing. It can cause severe and sometimes fatal liver damage, often with no symptoms at all for the first day. It can cause severe drowsiness, a fast heartbeat, confusion and, in children, agitation and fits. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Grilinctus Paed

Most side effects of Grilinctus Paed are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Safety advice for Grilinctus Paed

Warnings and precautions

Use only on medical advice in children. Not recommended for productive cough with excessive mucus unless advised by a doctor. Use with caution in asthma, severe respiratory disease, kidney impairment, or if the child is very drowsy. Stop and seek medical help if allergic reaction, breathing difficulty, persistent fever, wheeze, or cough lasts >3–5 days. Avoid other sedating cough/cold medicines unless prescribed.

Do not take Grilinctus Paed if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Codeine-containing preparations are not for children, or for anyone with breathing difficulty. Not for people with severe liver disease, except under medical supervision. The sedating antihistamines are not suitable for very young children, or for people with glaucoma or an enlarged prostate, without medical advice.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol and other CNS depressants/sedatives (may increase drowsiness), antihistamines with sedative effect, opioids/antitussives, other cough and cold combinations (risk of duplications)

How to store Grilinctus Paed

Store at room temperature (below 25°C), protected from light and moisture. Keep the bottle tightly closed and out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Grilinctus Paed

Drink plenty of water — it thins mucus better than any syrup. Steam inhalation helps congestion and costs nothing. Measure the dose with the cup supplied. Take the lowest dose that works, and leave the stated gap between doses. Seek help immediately after a suspected overdose, even if you feel completely well — treatment works best when it is early. Taking it at bedtime reduces the impact of any drowsiness. Identify and avoid your triggers where you can — dust, pollen, cold air.
