Polygeline 3.5% w/v (cross-linked gelatin polymer) in electrolyte solution; typically contains sodium chloride, potassium chloride, calcium chloride (strengths vary by label)
Plasma volume expansion in hypovolaemia/shock due to blood or plasma loss (e.g., trauma, surgery, burns), peri-operative volume replacement when crystalloids are inadequate
Polygeline is a colloid plasma expander that increases intravascular oncotic pressure and expands circulating plasma volume. This improves venous return and blood pressure, helping restore perfusion during acute volume depletion.
For intravenous infusion only; administer under medical supervision with dose and rate based on clinical status (blood loss, haemodynamics, urine output). Can be given through standard IV set; monitor vitals and signs of fluid overload; not a substitute for blood when oxygen-carrying capacity is required.

Use with caution in cardiac failure, hypertension, renal impairment, severe anaemia, and patients at risk of fluid overload; monitor electrolytes and haemodynamics. Risk of hypersensitivity reactions—stop infusion immediately if reaction occurs and treat appropriately. Large volumes may cause haemodilution and can affect coagulation; use cautiously in bleeding disorders and monitor coagulation if high volumes are used. Not for intramuscular or oral use.
