Jubiglim M 4 Tablet contains Glimepiride 4 mg + Metformin Hydrochloride (sustained/extended release) (strength unknown). It belongs to the Sulfonylurea + Biguanide (combination) class of medicines.

How Jubiglim M 4 Tablet works

Glimepiride (a sulfonylurea) increases insulin release from the pancreas and helps lower blood glucose. Metformin reduces glucose production in the liver and improves insulin sensitivity, lowering insulin resistance.

How to take Jubiglim M 4 Tablet

Oral tablet; take exactly as prescribed. Usually taken once daily with the first main meal (or as advised). Swallow whole; do not crush/chew if it is SR/ER. Monitor blood glucose regularly.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause severe and prolonged low blood sugar, which may lead to fits or unconsciousness. It can cause a dangerous build-up of acid in the blood, with vomiting, severe weakness and laboured breathing. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Most side effects of Jubiglim M are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar)
• nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhoea
• abdominal discomfort
• metallic taste
• headache
• dizziness
• weight gain

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Risk of hypoglycaemia (higher with missed meals, excess exercise, alcohol, elderly, kidney/liver impairment); carry sugar/glucose. Metformin may rarely cause lactic acidosis—seek urgent care for rapid breathing, severe weakness, abdominal pain, unusual sleepiness. Use with caution/adjust dose in kidney impairment; avoid in severe renal disease. Hold metformin before/after iodinated contrast studies or major surgery as advised by doctor. Monitor vitamin B12 with long-term use. Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

Do not take Jubiglim M if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for type 1 diabetes or for diabetic ketoacidosis. Not for people with severe kidney or liver disease. Not for people with severe kidney disease, severe liver disease, or an acute illness causing dehydration. Not for people who have had diabetic ketoacidosis.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol (increases risk of hypoglycaemia and lactic acidosis), iodinated contrast media, insulin/other antidiabetics (additive hypoglycaemia), beta-blockers (mask hypoglycaemia symptoms), ACE inhibitors (may enhance glucose-lowering), corticosteroids/thiazide diuretics (raise glucose), fluoroquinolones (glucose disturbances), cimetidine and other drugs affecting renal clearance (increase metformin levels)

How to store Jubiglim M 4 Tablet

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep in original blister pack. Keep out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Jubiglim M 4 Tablet

Take it shortly before a meal, and eat that meal. Check your sugar as often as your doctor has asked, especially when your routine changes. Take it with or just after food to reduce stomach upset. Keep taking it even when your sugar readings look normal — that is the medicine working. Continue your diet and physical activity; this medicine works alongside them, not instead of them.
