K-Glim 2 mg Tablet contains Glimepiride (2mg). It belongs to the Sulfonylurea (second generation) class of medicines.

How K-Glim 2 mg Tablet works

Glimepiride is a sulfonylurea that stimulates insulin release from pancreatic beta cells by closing ATP-sensitive potassium channels. Increased insulin helps lower blood glucose levels, especially after meals.

How to take K-Glim 2 mg Tablet

Take by mouth exactly as prescribed, usually once daily with breakfast or the first main meal. Swallow tablet with water; do not skip meals to reduce risk of low blood sugar. Dose adjustments are based on blood glucose/HbA1c and kidney/liver function.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you missed a a dose of K-Glim 2mg Tablet, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the usual time.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause severe and prolonged low blood sugar, which may lead to fits or unconsciousness. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of K-Glim 2 mg Tablet

Most side effects of K-Glim are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• skin rash/itching

Warnings and precautions

May cause hypoglycaemia—risk increases with missed meals, excessive exercise, alcohol, elderly, and with kidney/liver impairment; carry glucose/sugar. Use with caution in hepatic/renal disease; dose adjustment may be needed. Inform doctor if you have G6PD deficiency (risk of haemolytic anaemia). Temporarily withhold/adjust during major illness, surgery, or poor oral intake. Rare but serious: severe allergic reactions, jaundice/hepatitis, blood cell disorders—seek medical help if rash, swelling, breathing difficulty, dark urine, yellowing of eyes/skin, unusual bruising or infections occur. Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

Do not take K-Glim if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for type 1 diabetes or for diabetic ketoacidosis. Not for people with severe kidney or liver disease.

Interactions with other medicines

Insulin and other antidiabetics (increased hypoglycaemia), alcohol (increased hypoglycaemia/disulfiram-like reaction), beta-blockers (mask hypoglycaemia symptoms), ACE inhibitors (may enhance glucose-lowering), fluconazole and other azoles (increase effect), macrolides (increase effect), NSAIDs/salicylates (increase effect), sulfonamides (increase effect), warfarin (effect may change), thiazide diuretics and corticosteroids (reduce effect, raise glucose), rifampicin (reduce effect), phenytoin (reduce effect)

How to store K-Glim 2 mg Tablet

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from moisture and direct light. Keep in original pack and out of reach of children.

Expert advice for K-Glim 2 mg Tablet

Take K-Glim 2mg Tablet shortly before or with the first main meal of the day (usually breakfast). Exercise regularly, eat a healthy diet and take your other diabetes medicines (if prescribed) alongside. Monitor your blood sugar level regularly while you are taking K-Glim 2mg Tablet. K-Glim 2mg Tablet can cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) when used with other antidiabetic medicines, alcohol or if you delay or miss a meal. Be careful while driving or operating machinery until you know how K-Glim 2mg Tablet affects you. Always carry some sugary food or fruit juice with you in case you experience hypoglycemic symptoms such as cold sweats, cool pale skin, tremor and anxiety. Your doctor may check your liver function regularly. Inform your doctor if you develop symptoms, such as abdominal pain, loss of appetite, or yellowing of the eyes or skin (jaundice).
