Composition of Lariago DS Tablet

Lariago DS Tablet contains Chloroquine (500mg). It belongs to the 4-aminoquinoline antimalarial class of medicines.

Uses of Lariago DS Tablet

• Treatment of malaria caused by chloroquine-sensitive Plasmodium species; treatment of extraintestinal amoebiasis (e.g.
• amoebic liver abscess) as an adjunct to tissue amoebicides

How Lariago DS Tablet works

Chloroquine is an antimalarial that concentrates in parasite food vacuoles and inhibits heme polymerization, leading to toxic heme accumulation and parasite death. It also has anti-amoebic activity against certain forms of Entamoeba histolytica.

How to take Lariago DS Tablet

Take orally with food or milk to reduce stomach upset. Dose and duration depend on indication (malaria treatment/prophylaxis or amoebiasis) and must be as prescribed; swallow tablet with water and complete the full course.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Lariago-DS Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause dangerous heart rhythm disturbance, fits and coma. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Lariago DS Tablet

Most side effects of Lariago DS are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• abdominal pain
• diarrhea
• headache
• dizziness
• blurred vision
• itching
• rash

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Use only for chloroquine-sensitive malaria; resistance is common in many regions. Use with caution in liver disease, kidney impairment, psoriasis, porphyria, G6PD deficiency, epilepsy, and cardiac disease. Risk of QT prolongation/arrhythmias, hypoglycaemia, blood disorders, and retinal toxicity with high doses or prolonged use—seek care for visual changes. Overdose can be fatal, especially in children; keep out of reach. Not for self-medication in malaria—confirm diagnosis and follow local guidelines.

Do not take Lariago DS if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Several are not suitable in pregnancy or in G6PD deficiency — your doctor will choose accordingly.

Interactions with other medicines

QT-prolonging drugs (e.g., amiodarone, sotalol, macrolides, fluoroquinolones, antipsychotics), digoxin (may increase levels), antiepileptics (may reduce seizure control), cimetidine (may increase chloroquine levels), antacids/kaolin (reduce absorption—separate by 4 hours), insulin/antidiabetics (risk of hypoglycaemia), mefloquine (increased seizure/arrhythmia risk)

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep in original pack and out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Lariago DS Tablet

Lariago-DS Tablet is used for the prevention and treatment of malaria. Take it with food to decrease the risk of stomach upset. Tips to reduce the chance of being bitten by mosquitoes: Wear light-colored and covered clothing when you are outside after sunset. Use insect repellent creams or sprays on parts of your body not covered by clothing. Spray to kill any mosquitoes that may have entered rooms despite screening. It may cause a blurring of vision when you first start taking it. Use caution while driving or doing anything that requires concentration. Eye examination before and at 3–6 monthly intervals during use is required if patients are receiving Lariago-DS Tablet at continuous high doses for a longer duration. It may cause low blood sugar levels. Monitor your blood sugar level regularly, if you are diabetic. When used long-term, your doctor may monitor the amounts of the different types of blood cells in your blood regularly.
