Sodium Valproate (500 mg) controlled release tablet
Treatment of epilepsy/seizure disorders (partial and generalized seizures), prevention of migraine (as prescribed), management of manic episodes in bipolar disorder (as prescribed)
Sodium valproate increases levels of the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA in the brain and reduces abnormal neuronal firing. This helps stabilize electrical activity and prevents seizures/mood swings.
Swallow the controlled-release tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew. Take at the same time each day, preferably with food to reduce stomach upset. Dose and duration are as prescribed; do not stop abruptly without medical advice.
Common side effects of MACORATE CR 500MG TAB may include:
Risk of severe liver injury and pancreatitis—seek urgent care for severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, jaundice, dark urine or unusual tiredness. Can cause birth defects and developmental disorders; avoid in pregnancy unless clearly needed and under specialist advice. Monitor liver function and blood counts as advised; caution in patients with liver disease, bleeding disorders, or history of pancreatitis. May cause drowsiness—avoid driving/operating machinery if affected. Do not stop suddenly; may worsen seizures.
