Mox 250 Redimix Suspension contains Amoxicillin 250 mg/5 ml (as Amoxicillin trihydrate) powder for oral suspension (reconstituted). It belongs to the Penicillin antibiotic (Aminopenicillin) class of medicines.

How Mox 250 Redimix Suspension works

Amoxicillin is a penicillin-class antibiotic. It kills susceptible bacteria by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death.

How to take Mox 250 Redimix Suspension

Oral suspension. Reconstitute with boiled and cooled water up to the mark on the bottle, shake well. Give the measured dose using a measuring cup/syringe as prescribed; usually taken 2–3 times daily at evenly spaced intervals. Can be taken with or without food (take with food if stomach upset). Shake well before each dose and complete the full prescribed course.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause vomiting, severe loose motions and, rarely, fits. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Mox 250 Redimix Suspension

Most side effects of Mox are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Diarrhoea
• nausea
• vomiting
• abdominal pain
• rash
• headache
• thrush (candida infection)

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Prescription-only (Schedule H). Do not use in patients allergic to penicillins/cephalosporins. Use with caution in infectious mononucleosis (risk of rash). Dose adjustment may be needed in kidney impairment. Seek urgent help for signs of severe allergy (swelling, breathing difficulty), severe skin rash, or persistent/watery/bloody diarrhoea. Not effective for viral infections.

Do not take Mox if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for anyone with a known penicillin allergy.

Interactions with other medicines

Warfarin/other anticoagulants (may increase bleeding risk/INR), methotrexate (increased toxicity), probenecid (increases amoxicillin levels), allopurinol (increased risk of rash), oral typhoid vaccine (reduced efficacy), tetracyclines/chloramphenicol (may reduce antibacterial effect)

How to store Mox 250 Redimix Suspension

Store dry powder below 25°C in a dry place away from light. After reconstitution, store as per label (commonly refrigerated 2–8°C) and use within 7–14 days; do not freeze. Keep bottle tightly closed.

Expert advice for Mox 250 Redimix Suspension

Space the doses evenly through the day so the level stays steady. Take a probiotic a few hours apart if loose motions trouble you, and drink plenty of fluids. Never use a leftover antibiotic, or someone else's, for a new illness.
