How Moxigram Lx works

This medicine combines 2 active ingredients: Loteprednol and Moxifloxacin. Loteprednol acts directly on the surface and inside of the eye where it is instilled. Moxifloxacin kills the bacteria causing your infection by blocking the enzymes they use to copy their DNA.

How to take Moxigram Lx

Use this medicine as your doctor has directed. Follow the dose and the duration written on your prescription.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine is unlikely from eye use; flush the eye with clean water if too much is instilled. It can cause kidney injury, fits and heart rhythm disturbance. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Moxigram Lx

Most side effects of Moxigram Lx are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

  • Stinging on instillation
  • Blurred vision for a few minutes
  • Watering
  • Redness
  • Bitter taste
  • Nausea
  • Loose motions

Warnings and precautions

Never let the dropper tip touch your eye, eyelid or fingers — that is how a bottle becomes contaminated and causes a worse infection. Discard the bottle one month after you first open it, even if drops remain. Remove soft contact lenses before instilling drops and wait fifteen minutes before putting them back, unless the drops are specifically made for use with lenses. Seek same-day care for eye pain, marked redness, sensitivity to light or any loss of vision. Steroid eye drops must only be used under medical supervision — used wrongly they can raise eye pressure and damage sight. Glaucoma drops must be used every day for life; there are no symptoms until sight is already lost. Stop and contact your doctor at once if you develop pain, swelling or tenderness in a tendon — the Achilles tendon at the back of the ankle in particular. This group can damage tendons, and the risk is higher in older people and with steroids. Report any new numbness, tingling or burning in the hands or feet promptly. Tell your doctor about any change in mood, confusion or agitation. Avoid strong sunlight and use sun protection — this group makes the skin burn more easily. Finish the whole course; this group is heavily associated with antibiotic resistance and should be used only when prescribed.

Do not take Moxigram Lx if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for anyone with a known allergy to the preservative in the preparation. Generally avoided in children and adolescents, in pregnancy, and in anyone with a history of tendon problems with these antibiotics.

Interactions with other medicines

Beta blocker eye drops can be absorbed enough to slow the heart and tighten the airways — tell your doctor if you have asthma or a heart condition. Antacids, iron, zinc, calcium and milk markedly reduce absorption — separate them by at least two hours. Tell your doctor if you take steroids, a blood thinner or a medicine for heart rhythm.

How to store Moxigram Lx

Store below 30°C in the original pack, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.

Expert advice for Moxigram Lx

Press gently on the inner corner of the eye for a minute after instilling — this keeps the drop in the eye and reduces the bitter taste. Leave five minutes between two different drops. Never share eye drops with anyone. Drink plenty of water through the course. Separate it from antacids, milk and mineral supplements.
