Composition of Mucopain Gel

Mucopain Gel contains Benzocaine (20% w/w). It belongs to the Topical salicylate (NSAID-like) + local anaesthetic (amide) class of medicines.

How Mucopain Gel works

Choline salicylate is a salicylate anti-inflammatory that reduces pain and swelling at the site by inhibiting prostaglandin formation. Lidocaine is a local anaesthetic that temporarily numbs the oral mucosa by blocking nerve signal conduction.

How to take Mucopain Gel

For local application in the mouth. Apply a small amount of gel on the affected area with a clean finger/cotton bud and gently massage. Use 2–3 times daily or as directed by a doctor; preferably after meals and at bedtime. Avoid eating/drinking for about 15–30 minutes after application.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Mucopain Gel, apply it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine is unlikely from skin use, but swallowing an antiseptic is dangerous and needs immediate medical attention. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Mucopain Gel

Most side effects of Mucopain are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Burning or stinging at application site
• irritation
• numbness/altered taste
• dry mouth
• redness
• allergic reaction (rare)

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Safety advice for Mucopain Gel

Warnings and precautions

For external/oral mucosal use only; do not swallow large amounts. Avoid contact with eyes. Do not use if allergic to salicylates/aspirin or local anaesthetics (amide type). Use with caution in children, in people with asthma sensitive to aspirin, bleeding disorders, or those on blood thinners. If symptoms persist >7 days, ulcers recur frequently, or there is severe pain/fever, consult a dentist/doctor. Stop use and seek medical help if rash, swelling or breathing difficulty occurs.

Do not take Mucopain if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for use on large burns or deep wounds without medical advice.

Interactions with other medicines

Anticoagulants/antiplatelets (e.g., warfarin, clopidogrel) may increase bleeding risk with excessive use; other salicylates/NSAIDs may add side effects; class I antiarrhythmics or other local anaesthetics may increase lidocaine-related effects if absorbed in large amounts.

How to store Mucopain Gel

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Keep tube tightly closed and protect from heat and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Mucopain Gel

Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Mucopain Gel should be applied over the affected area with a clean fingertip, three to four times a day or as directed by your doctor. Once you apply the medication, wait for at least 30 minutes before eating and drinking anything. Avoid getting it in the eyes or nose. If accidental exposure occurs, rinse immediately with plenty of water. Inform your doctor if the infection has not cleared up after four weeks of treatment. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding.
