How Myospaz Tablet works

Myospaz Tablet is a combination of two medicines: Paracetamol/Acetaminophen and Chlorzoxazone, which relieves pain and relax the muscles. Paracetamol/Acetaminophen is an analgesic (pain reliever) and antipyretic (fever reducer). It blocks the release of certain chemical messengers in the brain that are responsible for pain and fever. Chlorzoxazone is a muscle relaxant. It works by acting on the centers in the brain and spinal cord to relieve the muscle stiffness or spasm.

How to take Myospaz Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Myospaz Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.Take this medicine with food, if it causes stomach upset

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause severe and sometimes fatal liver damage, often with no symptoms at all for the first day. It can cause deep drowsiness, muscle weakness, a fall in blood pressure and slowed breathing. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Warnings and precautions

Never exceed the daily maximum printed on the pack. Paracetamol overdose damages the liver, and the damage can be silent for a day or two before it becomes serious. Check every other medicine you are taking. Paracetamol is in a very large number of cold, flu and pain combinations, and the doses add together. If you drink alcohol regularly, or have liver disease, ask your doctor what daily limit is safe for you. See a doctor if fever lasts more than three days, or pain more than five. This medicine causes drowsiness. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you. Use it for the short course your doctor has prescribed — these are not intended for long-term use. Do not stop a long course abruptly without asking your doctor.

Do not take Myospaz if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with severe liver disease, except under medical supervision. Not for people with myasthenia gravis or severe liver disease.

Interactions with other medicines

Regular alcohol use increases the risk of liver injury. Tell your doctor if you are on warfarin — regular high-dose paracetamol can affect it. Alcohol, sleeping tablets, antihistamines and opioid painkillers all add to the drowsiness, sometimes dangerously.

Store below 30°C in the original pack, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.

Take the lowest dose that works, and leave the stated gap between doses. Seek help immediately after a suspected overdose, even if you feel completely well — treatment works best when it is early. Combine it with gentle movement and the physiotherapy your doctor advises; rest alone prolongs back pain. Take it at night if drowsiness troubles you during the day.
