Composition of Oflox 200 Tablet

Oflox 200 Tablet contains Ofloxacin 200 mg (as Ofloxacin) per tablet. It belongs to the Fluoroquinolone antibiotic class of medicines.

Uses of Oflox 200 Tablet

• Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections such as urinary tract infections
• prostatitis
• respiratory tract infections (e.g.
• bronchitis
• pneumonia)
• gastrointestinal infections (including traveller’s diarrhoea)
• typhoid fever
• skin and soft tissue infections
• and certain sexually transmitted infections as prescribed.

How Oflox 200 Tablet works

Ofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. This blocks DNA replication and repair, leading to bacterial cell death.

How to take Oflox 200 Tablet

Take by mouth as prescribed by the doctor, usually once or twice daily. Can be taken with or without food; take at the same time each day and complete the full course. Avoid taking with milk/dairy, antacids, or iron/calcium/zinc supplements close to the dose (keep a 2–4 hour gap).

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause kidney injury, fits and heart rhythm disturbance. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Oflox 200 Tablet

Most side effects of Oflox are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• nausea
• diarrhoea
• abdominal pain
• vomiting
• headache
• dizziness
• insomnia
• rash
• taste changes

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Safety advice for Oflox 200 Tablet

Warnings and precautions

Use only for bacterial infections; not effective for viral illnesses. Fluoroquinolones may cause tendonitis/tendon rupture (higher risk in elderly, steroid use), peripheral neuropathy, CNS effects (seizures, agitation), worsening of myasthenia gravis, QT prolongation/arrhythmias, and severe allergic reactions. Stop and seek medical help for tendon pain/swelling, numbness/tingling, severe diarrhoea, palpitations, or rash. Use with caution in kidney disease (dose adjustment may be needed), epilepsy/seizure disorders, and in patients with heart rhythm problems. Avoid excessive sun exposure (photosensitivity).

Do not take Oflox if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Generally avoided in children and adolescents, in pregnancy, and in anyone with a history of tendon problems with these antibiotics.

Interactions with other medicines

antacids containing magnesium/aluminium, sucralfate, iron/calcium/zinc supplements (reduced absorption), NSAIDs (may increase seizure risk), corticosteroids (increased tendon rupture risk), warfarin (may increase bleeding risk), antiarrhythmics and other QT-prolonging drugs (e.g., amiodarone, sotalol, macrolides, antipsychotics), hypoglycaemic agents/insulin (blood sugar disturbances), theophylline (levels/CNS effects)

How to store Oflox 200 Tablet

Store at room temperature (below 25°C), protected from light and moisture. Keep in original pack and out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Oflox 200 Tablet

Drink plenty of water through the course. Separate it from antacids, milk and mineral supplements.
