Composition of Pantofix 40

Pantofix 40 contains Pantoprazole 40 mg (enteric-coated tablet). It belongs to the Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) class of medicines.

How Pantofix 40 works

Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It irreversibly blocks the H+/K+ ATPase (proton pump) in gastric parietal cells, thereby reducing acid production and relieving acid-related symptoms and promoting ulcer healing.

How to take Pantofix 40

Oral tablet: usually 40 mg once daily, preferably 30–60 minutes before food (often before breakfast). Swallow whole; do not crush/chew (enteric-coated). Use for the duration advised by a doctor.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine may cause confusion, blurred vision, sweating and a fast heartbeat. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Pantofix 40

Most side effects of Pantofix are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Use with caution in severe liver disease. Long-term use may increase risk of low magnesium, vitamin B12 deficiency, bone fractures, and certain infections (e.g., C. difficile). Seek medical advice if alarm symptoms occur (unexplained weight loss, persistent vomiting, blood in stool/vomit, difficulty swallowing). May mask symptoms of gastric cancer. Not for immediate relief of acute heartburn.

Interactions with other medicines

Atazanavir/nelfinavir (reduced effect; avoid), warfarin (monitor INR), methotrexate (high-dose; increased levels), digoxin/diuretics (risk of hypomagnesemia), clopidogrel (possible reduced activation—clinical relevance lower than omeprazole but caution), drugs needing acidic pH for absorption (ketoconazole, itraconazole, erlotinib, iron salts)

Store below 25°C, protected from moisture and direct light; keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Pantofix 40

Take it before breakfast, not after a meal. Eat smaller meals, avoid late dinners, raise the head of your bed and avoid smoking — these do as much as the tablet for reflux.
