Composition of Perinorm Tablet

Perinorm Tablet contains Metoclopramide (10mg). It belongs to the Dopamine (D2) receptor antagonist; Prokinetic agent class of medicines.

Uses of Perinorm Tablet

• Treatment and prevention of nausea and vomiting (including due to migraine
• medicines
• or postoperative causes); symptomatic relief in gastro-oesophageal reflux and delayed gastric emptying (gastroparesis) where prescribed.

How Perinorm Tablet works

Metoclopramide is a dopamine (D2) receptor antagonist that acts on the vomiting centre/chemoreceptor trigger zone to reduce nausea and vomiting. It also increases gastrointestinal motility and speeds gastric emptying, helping relieve reflux and fullness.

How to take Perinorm Tablet

Take as directed by the doctor, usually 30 minutes before meals and at bedtime if prescribed. Swallow the tablet with water; can be taken with or without food, but taking before meals is preferred for gastric-motility benefit. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration; do not exceed prescribed frequency.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Perinorm Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause drowsiness, disorientation and abnormal muscle movements. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Perinorm Tablet

Most side effects of Perinorm are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Drowsiness
• dizziness
• diarrhoea
• restlessness (akathisia)
• fatigue
• headache
• dry mouth
• abdominal cramps
• extrapyramidal symptoms (muscle spasms/tremor)

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

May cause drowsiness—avoid driving or operating machinery if affected. Risk of extrapyramidal reactions (especially in children/young adults) and tardive dyskinesia with prolonged use—avoid long-term use unless specifically advised. Use with caution in Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, depression, elderly patients, and in renal/hepatic impairment (dose adjustment may be needed). Contraindicated/avoid in GI obstruction, perforation or bleeding; and in pheochromocytoma. Seek urgent care for uncontrolled movements, fever/rigidity (neuroleptic malignant syndrome), or severe allergic reactions.

Do not take Perinorm if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with bleeding, blockage or perforation of the gut, or with certain heart rhythm disorders.

Interactions with other medicines

Levodopa/dopamine agonists (reduces effect), antipsychotics (increased extrapyramidal risk), serotonergic drugs/MAOIs/SSRIs (risk of serotonin syndrome), opioids and anticholinergics (reduce prokinetic effect), CNS depressants/alcohol (increased sedation), digoxin (reduced absorption), cyclosporine (increased levels), insulin (may require adjustment in diabetics with gastroparesis).

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Perinorm Tablet helps relieve nausea, vomiting, indigestion and heartburn. It may cause dizziness and sleepiness. Do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus until you know how it affects you. Avoid consuming alcohol when taking Perinorm Tablet as it may cause excessive drowsiness. Inform your doctor if you get watery diarrhea, fever, or stomach pain that does not go away.
