Remicef 200 Tablet contains Cefixime (200mg). It belongs to the Third-generation cephalosporin class of medicines.

How Remicef 200 Tablet works

Cefixime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to cell lysis and death. It is effective against many Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

Side effects of Remicef 200 Tablet

Most side effects of Remicef are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Diarrhoea
• nausea
• abdominal pain
• indigestion
• vomiting
• headache
• dizziness
• rash
• itching
• raised liver enzymes

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Use only for bacterial infections; not effective for viral infections. Inform doctor if you have allergy to cephalosporins/penicillins or history of severe allergic reactions. Use with caution in kidney disease; dose adjustment may be needed. Antibiotics may cause diarrhoea; seek medical help if severe/persistent diarrhoea or blood in stools (possible C. difficile). Prolonged use may lead to superinfection; use as directed.

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for anyone with a known allergy to cephalosporin antibiotics.

Interactions with other medicines

Warfarin and other anticoagulants (may increase bleeding risk/INR), probenecid (may increase cefixime levels), live bacterial vaccines such as oral typhoid vaccine (reduced effect), antacids containing magnesium/aluminium (may reduce absorption; separate dosing if advised)

How to store Remicef 200 Tablet

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Remicef 200 Tablet

Take Remicef 200mg Tablet exactly as prescribed and complete the full course, even if you start feeling better. Stopping Remicef 200mg Tablet too early may allow the infection to return and become harder to treat. Drink plenty of fluids while taking Remicef 200mg Tablet, especially if fever or infection-related dehydration is present. Diarrhea may occur while taking Remicef 200mg Tablet, but it usually resolves after completing the treatment course. Use oral rehydration fluids if diarrhea occurs, and contact your doctor if it becomes severe or bloody. Inform your doctor if you have a history of allergy to penicillin or cephalosporin antibiotics before taking Remicef 200mg Tablet. Stop taking Remicef 200mg Tablet and seek immediate medical help if you develop a rash, itching, swelling of the face or mouth, or difficulty breathing. Inform your doctor if you are taking blood thinners or other medicines that may interact with antibiotics. Consult your doctor if symptoms do not improve within a few days of starting Remicef 200mg Tablet. Do not use leftover antibiotics or share Remicef 200mg Tablet with others. Report symptoms such as vaginal itching or discharge that may occur due to secondary yeast infection after antibiotic use.
