Treatment of acute infectious diarrhoea and dysentery (including traveller’s diarrhoea), gastrointestinal infections due to mixed bacterial and protozoal organisms (e.g., amoebiasis/giardiasis with bacterial co-infection), as prescribed by a doctor
Ofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase/topoisomerase IV, stopping bacterial replication. Ornidazole is a nitroimidazole antiprotozoal/antibacterial that forms reactive metabolites in anaerobic organisms and protozoa, damaging DNA and leading to cell death.
Tablet for oral use. Take exactly as prescribed; commonly taken after food with water to reduce stomach upset. Complete the full course even if you feel better; do not skip doses.
Common side effects of SETOFLOX OZ TAB may include:
Prescription-only. Not recommended for viral diarrhoea. Fluoroquinolones may cause tendonitis/tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, CNS effects (dizziness, seizures), QT prolongation and severe allergic reactions; stop and seek medical help if tendon pain, numbness/tingling, palpitations or rash occurs. Use with caution in epilepsy, heart rhythm disorders, myasthenia gravis, liver disease and renal impairment (dose adjustment may be needed). May cause dizziness—avoid driving if affected. Not for use in children/adolescents unless specifically advised. Risk of C. difficile-associated diarrhoea; seek care if severe/persistent diarrhoea or blood in stools.
