Setoflox Oz Tablet contains Ofloxacin 200 mg + Ornidazole 500 mg. It belongs to the Fluoroquinolone antibiotic + Nitroimidazole derivative class of medicines.

Uses of Setoflox Oz Tablet

• Treatment of acute infectious diarrhoea and dysentery (including traveller’s diarrhoea)

How Setoflox Oz Tablet works

Ofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase/topoisomerase IV, stopping bacterial replication. Ornidazole is a nitroimidazole antiprotozoal/antibacterial that forms reactive metabolites in anaerobic organisms and protozoa, damaging DNA and leading to cell death.

How to take Setoflox Oz Tablet

Tablet for oral use. Take exactly as prescribed; commonly taken after food with water to reduce stomach upset. Complete the full course even if you feel better; do not skip doses.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause kidney injury, fits and heart rhythm disturbance. It can cause vomiting, severe loose motions and nerve symptoms. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Most side effects of Setoflox Oz are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Warnings and precautions

Prescription-only. Not recommended for viral diarrhoea. Fluoroquinolones may cause tendonitis/tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, CNS effects (dizziness, seizures), QT prolongation and severe allergic reactions; stop and seek medical help if tendon pain, numbness/tingling, palpitations or rash occurs. Use with caution in epilepsy, heart rhythm disorders, myasthenia gravis, liver disease and renal impairment (dose adjustment may be needed). May cause dizziness—avoid driving if affected. Not for use in children/adolescents unless specifically advised. Risk of C. difficile-associated diarrhoea; seek care if severe/persistent diarrhoea or blood in stools.

Do not take Setoflox Oz if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Generally avoided in children and adolescents, in pregnancy, and in anyone with a history of tendon problems with these antibiotics.

Interactions with other medicines

Antacids/iron/calcium/zinc/sucralfate (reduce ofloxacin absorption; separate by 2-4 hours), warfarin and other anticoagulants (increased bleeding risk), QT-prolonging drugs (e.g., amiodarone, sotalol, macrolides, antipsychotics), NSAIDs (increased seizure risk), corticosteroids (increased tendon rupture risk), antidiabetic drugs/insulin (risk of hypo-/hyperglycaemia), theophylline (increased levels), alcohol (ornidazole-related intolerance)

How to store Setoflox Oz Tablet

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Setoflox Oz Tablet

Drink plenty of water through the course. Separate it from antacids, milk and mineral supplements. Space the doses evenly and complete the course. Take tetracyclines with a full glass of water and stay upright for half an hour afterwards. Never use a leftover antibiotic, or someone else's, for a new illness.
