Composition of Zanocin Oz Tablet

Zanocin Oz Tablet contains Ofloxacin 200 mg + Ornidazole 500 mg. It belongs to the Fluoroquinolone antibiotic + Nitroimidazole derivative class of medicines.

Uses of Zanocin Oz Tablet

• Treatment of acute infectious diarrhoea and dysentery (including amoebiasis/giardiasis)
• gastroenteritis and other mixed bacterial-protozoal infections as prescribed by a doctor

How Zanocin Oz Tablet works

Ofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase/topoisomerase IV, stopping bacterial growth. Ornidazole is a nitroimidazole anti-infective that damages DNA of anaerobic bacteria and protozoa, helping clear mixed infections.

How to take Zanocin Oz Tablet

Tablet for oral use. Take exactly as prescribed; commonly taken after food with water. Complete the full course and do not skip doses; do not take with milk/antacids/iron supplements within 2 hours of the dose unless advised.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take the missed dose of Zanocin Oz as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.

If you take too much

Taking more Zanocin Oz than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.

Side effects of Zanocin Oz Tablet

Most side effects of Zanocin Oz are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Nausea
• vomiting
• abdominal pain
• diarrhoea
• headache
• dizziness
• metallic taste
• dry mouth

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Safety advice for Zanocin Oz Tablet

Warnings and precautions

Use only on medical advice; not for self-treatment of diarrhoea. Avoid in allergy to ofloxacin/quinolones or ornidazole/nitroimidazoles. Caution in epilepsy/seizure disorders, liver disease, kidney disease, elderly, myasthenia gravis. Fluoroquinolones may cause tendonitis/tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, CNS effects, QT prolongation and worsening of myasthenia gravis—stop and seek care if tendon pain, numbness/tingling, palpitations, severe dizziness or confusion occur. May cause photosensitivity—limit sun exposure. If severe/persistent diarrhoea occurs, seek medical advice (risk of C. difficile).

Interactions with other medicines

Warfarin/other anticoagulants (increased bleeding risk), antacids or supplements containing magnesium/aluminium/iron/zinc/calcium (reduced ofloxacin absorption), corticosteroids (increased tendon rupture risk), antiarrhythmics/QT-prolonging drugs (increased arrhythmia risk), NSAIDs (increased seizure risk), theophylline (increased CNS stimulation), insulin/oral antidiabetics (blood sugar disturbances), alcohol (disulfiram-like reaction with ornidazole)

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
