Simbrinza Drops contains Brinzolamide 1% w/v + Brimonidine tartrate 0.2% w/v ophthalmic suspension. It belongs to the Carbonic anhydrase inhibitor + Alpha-2 adrenergic agonist class of medicines.

How Simbrinza Drops works

Brinzolamide is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor that reduces aqueous humour production in the eye, lowering intraocular pressure. Brimonidine is an alpha-2 adrenergic agonist that decreases aqueous humour formation and increases uveoscleral outflow, further reducing IOP.

How to take Simbrinza Drops

For ophthalmic use only. Instill 1 drop into the affected eye(s) as prescribed (commonly twice daily). Shake well before use. Remove contact lenses before instillation; reinsert after 15 minutes. If using other eye medicines, keep a 5–10 minute gap.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine is unlikely from eye use; flush the eye with clean water if too much is instilled. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Simbrinza Drops

Most side effects of Simbrinza are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• bitter/abnormal taste
• dry mouth
• headache
• fatigue/drowsiness

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Do not use if allergic to brinzolamide/brimonidine or sulfonamides. Use caution in severe kidney impairment (brinzolamide is contraindicated in severe renal impairment) and in patients with cardiovascular disease, orthostatic hypotension, depression, Raynaud’s phenomenon, or cerebrovascular insufficiency (brimonidine may worsen). May cause drowsiness/blurred vision—avoid driving until clear. Avoid touching dropper tip to prevent contamination. Use in children only if prescribed. Tell your doctor if you have dry eye/corneal problems.

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for anyone with a known allergy to the preservative in the preparation.

Interactions with other medicines

MAO inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants (may affect brimonidine), CNS depressants/alcohol (additive sedation), antihypertensives/cardiac glycosides (additive blood pressure/heart rate effects), other carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (e.g., acetazolamide) may increase systemic effects, other glaucoma eye drops (additive IOP-lowering)

How to store Simbrinza Drops

Store below 25°C. Protect from light and moisture. Do not freeze. Keep bottle tightly closed. Discard as per label/within recommended period after opening.

Expert advice for Simbrinza Drops

Press gently on the inner corner of the eye for a minute after instilling — this keeps the drop in the eye and reduces the bitter taste. Leave five minutes between two different drops. Never share eye drops with anyone.
