Solvin Cough Syrup contains Dextromethorphan (10mg) + Chlorpheniramine (2mg). It belongs to the Mucolytic (Bromhexine derivative) class of medicines.

How Solvin Cough Syrup works

Bromhexine is a mucolytic/expectorant that breaks down and thins thick bronchial mucus by depolymerizing mucopolysaccharide fibres. This makes sputum less sticky and easier to cough out, improving airway clearance.

How to take Solvin Cough Syrup

Oral syrup. Shake well before use and measure with a cup/spoon. Typically taken 2–3 times daily as advised by doctor; may be taken with or without food. Drink adequate fluids to help loosen mucus. Do not exceed recommended dose; if symptoms persist beyond a few days, consult a clinician.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause vomiting, severe drowsiness, a racing heart and, with codeine, dangerously slow breathing. It can cause severe drowsiness, a fast heartbeat, confusion and, in children, agitation and fits. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Warnings and precautions

For children, dose should be as per paediatrician. If cough lasts >7 days, is recurrent, or is accompanied by fever, wheezing, blood in sputum, or weight loss, seek medical advice.

Do not take Solvin Cough if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Codeine-containing preparations are not for children, or for anyone with breathing difficulty. The sedating antihistamines are not suitable for very young children, or for people with glaucoma or an enlarged prostate, without medical advice.

Interactions with other medicines

May increase penetration of certain antibiotics (e.g., amoxicillin, cefuroxime, erythromycin, doxycycline) into bronchial secretions; usually not harmful but inform doctor. Avoid combining with cough suppressants (e.g., codeine/dextromethorphan) in productive cough unless prescribed, as it may hinder mucus clearance.

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from direct light. Keep bottle tightly closed. Keep out of reach of children.
