Theo Asthalin Syrup 100 ml New contains Theophylline + Salbutamol (as Salbutamol sulphate) syrup (strengths vary by brand/batch; check label). It belongs to the Methylxanthine + Short-acting beta2-agonist (SABA) class of medicines.
Salbutamol is a short-acting beta-2 agonist that relaxes bronchial smooth muscles to quickly open the airways. Theophylline is a bronchodilator (methylxanthine) that helps relax airway muscles and may reduce airway responsiveness, improving breathing.
Oral syrup. Take exactly as prescribed by the doctor; dose is based on age, weight and response. Can be taken with or without food; taking after food may reduce stomach upset. Use a measuring cup/spoon; do not exceed prescribed dose.
Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.
Take the missed dose of Theo Asthalin as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.
Taking more Theo Asthalin than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.
Most side effects of Theo Asthalin are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:
Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Use only on medical advice. Overdose can cause serious effects (severe palpitations, vomiting, seizures, arrhythmias). Caution in heart disease, high blood pressure, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, seizure disorders, liver disease, and in elderly. Theophylline levels can be affected by fever, smoking, and many medicines; monitoring may be required for prolonged use. Seek urgent care for chest pain, severe dizziness, worsening breathlessness, or allergic reactions.
Macrolide antibiotics (erythromycin/clarithromycin), fluoroquinolones (ciprofloxacin), cimetidine, oral contraceptives, fluvoxamine (increase theophylline levels); rifampicin, phenytoin, carbamazepine, smoking (decrease theophylline levels); beta-blockers may reduce salbutamol effect; other sympathomimetics, caffeine, and xanthines increase side effects; diuretics/corticosteroids may increase risk of low potassium with salbutamol
