Topinate Cream contains Clobetasol (0.05% w/w). It belongs to the Topical corticosteroid class of medicines.

Management of inflammatory and itchy skin conditions (steroid-responsive dermatoses) such as eczema/dermatitis and psoriasis (as prescribed).

How Topinate Cream works

Topical corticosteroids reduce inflammation in the skin by suppressing release of inflammatory mediators. This decreases redness, swelling and itching.

How to take Topinate Cream

For external use only. Clean and dry the affected area, then apply a thin layer to the affected skin as directed by the doctor, usually 1–2 times daily. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth and broken skin; wash hands after application unless hands are treated.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Topinate Cream, apply it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can suppress the body's own steroid production when it is used for a long time over large areas, especially in children. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Topinate Cream

Most side effects of Topinate are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• skin irritation
• thinning of skin (with prolonged use)
• acneiform eruptions

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Use only on the affected area for the shortest duration advised. Do not use on face/groin/armpits unless prescribed; avoid occlusive dressings unless advised. Prolonged or excessive use can cause skin thinning, stretch marks or systemic steroid effects, especially in children. Do not use on untreated bacterial/fungal/viral skin infections; seek medical advice if symptoms worsen or infection develops.

Do not take Topinate if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for untreated bacterial, fungal or viral skin infections. Not for use in or around the eyes.

Interactions with other medicines

Other topical medicines on the same area (may increase irritation/absorption), occlusive dressings (increase absorption), potent topical steroids or systemic corticosteroids (additive effects)

How to store Topinate Cream

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Keep cap tightly closed and out of reach of children.

Topinate Cream is used to treat redness, swelling, itching, and discomfort of various skin conditions. It should be applied to the affected areas as a thin film two or three times daily, or as advised by your doctor. Don't use it more often or for longer than advised by your doctor. Don't cover the area being treated with airtight dressings such as bandages unless directed by a doctor, as this may increase the risk of side effects. If you think the area of skin you are treating has become infected you should stop using Topinate Cream and consult your doctor. Consult your doctor if your skin condition has not improved after four weeks of treatment. Do not use it for more than 4 consecutive weeks at a time.
