Tufacne 10 mg Tablet contains Isotretinoin (10mg). It belongs to the Oral retinoid (retinoic acid derivative) class of medicines.

How Tufacne 10 mg Tablet works

Isotretinoin is an oral retinoid that markedly reduces sebum production and shrinks sebaceous glands. It also normalizes follicular keratinization and has anti-inflammatory effects, thereby reducing acne lesions.

How to take Tufacne 10 mg Tablet

Take exactly as prescribed by a dermatologist. Usually taken once or twice daily with food (preferably a fatty meal) to improve absorption; swallow whole with water. Follow the full course and required pregnancy prevention program; do not share medicine.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Tufacne 10 Capsule, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause severe irritation when far too much cream is applied; an oral retinoid taken in excess can cause headache, vomiting and liver injury. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Tufacne 10 mg Tablet

Most side effects of Tufacne are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• nosebleeds
• peeling/skin sensitivity
• rash
• photosensitivity
• headache
• muscle/joint pain
• increased liver enzymes
• increased triglycerides

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Teratogenic—contraindicated in pregnancy; strict pregnancy prevention is required (effective contraception before, during and after treatment as advised) and regular pregnancy tests. Avoid blood donation during therapy and for at least 1 month after stopping. Monitor liver function tests and lipid profile; use caution in patients with liver disease, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, depression or history of mood disorders. May cause decreased night vision; caution while driving at night. Avoid excessive sun exposure; use sunscreen. Do not use with tetracyclines (risk of intracranial hypertension) or vitamin A supplements (toxicity).

Do not take Tufacne if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Oral retinoids are absolutely contraindicated in pregnancy and in anyone who might become pregnant without a pregnancy prevention programme. Topical retinoids are avoided in pregnancy.

Interactions with other medicines

Tetracyclines (doxycycline/minocycline), vitamin A/retinoid supplements, alcohol (raises triglycerides/liver risk), corticosteroids (bone effects), phenytoin (bone effects), St John’s wort (may reduce contraceptive effectiveness)

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

It may cause dryness of mouth, lips, and eyes. Drink plenty of water, use moisturiser and avoid wearing contact lenses. Inform your doctor if it bothers you. Do not take Tufacne 10 Capsule if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding.
